The Old Art Building in Leland will present its 20th annual fall fiber event over the weekend of October 9-10. Focus on Fiber is an interactive exhibit sharing the art of hand-spinning, weaving and basketmaking. Participating artists include Sue Ann Carpenter, Nancy Doughty, Linda Good, Catherine Siterlet and Christie Trout. The event is open and free to the public from 10 am–4 pm both Saturday and Sunday.

The Leland Old Art Building’s “Painting on Location” group will hold its first ever show and sale on the front lawn of the OAB in Leland on Monday, August 16, from 2-6 pm. The clothesline show will include paintings by artists who participated in the 2021 plein air painting group. The show will move inside in the case of implement weather. Admission is free, and all proceeds benefit the painters.
The opening reception for the 29th annual Art Leelanau benefit art exhibition and sale takes place at the Old Art Building in Leland on Friday, July 23, from 5-8 p.m. The show highlights the work of more than 80 artists with connections to Leelanau County and covers a range a mediums. Proceeds support both the Leelanau Community Cultural Center’s (LCCC) general operations fund and the many artists who live full or part-time in Leelanau County. The exhibit will continue through Wednesday, July 28.
The Leelanau Community Cultural Center (LCCC) and Little Garden Club of Leland are co-sponsoring an exhibit and sale of “Art of the Garden” at the Old Art Building. The show will run June 24-27 from 11 am–5 pm. This exhibit will feature artwork of the flora and fauna of gardens in a variety of mediums.
More than 350 middle and high school art students from around Leelanau County are currently utilizing paper mache masks to create artworks that reflect their individual responses to the COVID-19 pandemic. An exhibit of these works will take place at the Old Art Building in Leland in May, which is National Mental Health Month. The exhibition dates will be May 16-May 27.
The Old Art Building in Leland is hosting an ice sculpting event on Saturday, February 20. The Icebreaker challenge will take place from 10 am–4 pm on the front lawn of the Old Art Building and is free to the public. Meander the pathways to view ice carving in action, enjoy some simple food and beverage options, and warm up at one of several bonfires. The event will include up to 10 sculpting teams from the Leelanau-Grand Traverse area and a professional demonstration by a former ice art world champion.
The Leelanau Early Childhood Development Committee will host an evening forum on Oct. 21, at 7 p.m. to provide information on the Early Childhood Development Services millage request on the Nov. 5 countywide ballot.
The Leelanau Women Artists will host a members’ show of basketry, fused glass, jewelry and painting, Oct. 4-5 at the Leland Old Art Building. An opening reception with the artists will be Friday, Oct. 4 from 5-7 p.m.

Jones and the Benzie Playboys bring the roots of southwest Louisiana’s Creole, Cajun, and Zydeco music to the Old Art Building on Saturday, Aug. 31 at 7 pm. Bring chairs, blankets and your dancing shoes—Beer, wine, and cider will be available for purchase. No coolers please.
The Harry Goldson Quintet will perform on Sunday, August 25, at the Old Art Building in Leland featuring live jazz music. Harry will be accompanied by Steve Sandner on piano, Elgin Vines on bass, Will Harris on percussion, and Jim Cooper on vibraphone. Doors open at 7 pm; the show will begin at 7:30 pm.
