Old Art Building holds Plein Air Clothesline Show

From staff reports

The Leland Old Art Building’s “Painting on Location” group will hold its first ever show and sale on the front lawn of the OAB in Leland on Monday, August 16, from 2-6 pm. The clothesline show will include paintings by artists who participated in the 2021 plein air painting group. The show will move inside in the case of implement weather. Admission is free, and all proceeds benefit the painters.

Some of the artists will be on site to demonstrate plein air painting and answer questions about the group and their work. You are sure to recognize the beautiful locations the artists painted this summer. The locations were chosen for variety of subject matter and experiences.

The group’s host and organizer, Martha Elchert, says plein air painting is more than a picture of a place. She describes is as the artist capturing a moment in time that is influenced by all of the senses. “The sound of waves on the shore, the scent of flowers in the air, the hum of traffic or people talking, wind through the trees, are part of a finished Plein air painting,” Martha shared.
