Old Art Building focuses on fiber

News

From staff reports

The Old Art Building in Leland will present its 20th annual fall fiber event over the weekend of October 9-10. Focus on Fiber is an interactive exhibit sharing the art of hand-spinning, weaving and basketmaking. Participating artists include Sue Ann Carpenter, Nancy Doughty, Linda Good, Catherine Siterlet and Christie Trout. The event is open and free to the public from 10 am–4 pm both Saturday and Sunday.

Visitors are invited to interact with the artists and will have the opportunity to learn about shearing sheep and processing, dying and spinning wool into yarn. Artists will also demonstrate how to thread and dress floor looms for handweaving. Three local basketmakers will use pine needles for coil baskets as well as rattan, black ash and cedar bark for traditional and sculptured baskets. All artists work will be available for purchase.

To learn more about the artists, visit OldArtBuilding.com/events/focus-on-fiber. For additional information, call the Old Art Building at 231-256-2131.
