Leelanau Early Childhood Development Committee holds forum

From staff reports

The Leelanau Early Childhood Development Committee will host an evening forum on Oct. 21, at 7 p.m. to provide information on the Early Childhood Development Services millage request on the Nov. 5 countywide ballot.

The millage is a recommendation from the Early Childhood County Committee convened by the Leelanau County Commissioners and placed on the ballot by a bi-partisan vote of the Commissioners. The presentation will discuss the referendum and how the 0.235 millage would be used to fund high-quality early childhood development services supporting parents in their efforts of raising children who are healthy, safe, and ready to learn.

The proposed services would support ALL families with children from birth to age six at one of the most meaningful and challenging periods in life when 90% of brain growth occurs, impacting how children will learn, feel, and behave for the rest of their lives. The forum will be held at 7 p.m. at the Old Art Building in Leland and is open to the public. Questions will be answered following the presentation.
