The Glen Lake Library in Empire will host a presentation about the uses of essential oils on Tuesday, February 13, at 7 p.m. Essential oils extracted from plants have been used for thousands of years for relaxation, beauty care, cleaning, and most often for aromatherapy, a holistic treatment to improve physical, mental and emotional health.

A special holiday tradition continues, Nov. 15-17, as the Glen Lake Community Library holds its 19th annual call for children’s books. The Friends of the Library, in cooperation with Glen Lake School’s “Parenting Communities” program, is once again collecting donations of new children’s books for children whose families are in need of assistance this holiday season.

The Glen Lake Community Library will present a free documentary film, The Barn Raisers, on Friday, November 17 at 7 p.m., in the Empire Township Hall. The film explores Midwest barns through the lens of architecture, building methods, barn styles, and materials: what they tell us about the people who built them, the life they lived, and the role these “country cathedrals” played in the settling and building of our country.

The Friends of the Glen Lake Community Library will hold their annual book sale August 9-11 at the Glen Arbor Township Hall. You will find gently used and new books, games, puzzles, and recordings at this fundraiser for our wonderful library.

You are invited to attend a free showing of Hometown Habitat — Stories of Bringing Nature Home at 7 p.m. on June 2 at the Empire Township Hall. Through the film’s profile of seven hometown habitat heroes, this film will help to answer these questions and more for you.
