Glen Lake Library plan expansion

From staff reports

After nearly three years of strategic planning and library assessment activities, the Glen Lake Community Library (GLCL) is poised to begin an expansion and renovation project for its facility on Front Street in Empire.

The GLCL was established in 1977, and serves the residents of Empire, Glen Arbor and Kasson Townships. Since the completion of the current building in 1997, library services, collections and usage have increased dramatically. In 2014, the library board established a long-range plan, which identified an upgraded facility as one of seven primary objectives for future development. Since then, the library has acquired an adjacent property to allow for expansion, has conducted public surveys and visioning sessions to gather input from the community, and has worked with planning consultants to determine the scope of needed facility improvements.

The GLCL is seeking architecture firms interested in designing the plans for the renovation and expansion project. Firms or individuals interested in responding to the Request for Qualifications should contact David Diller, Library Director, at 231-326-5361, or via email info@glenlakelibrary.net. The deadline for submission is Monday, June 12, at 3 p.m.
