Glen Lake Library hosts barns film
From staff reports
The Glen Lake Community Library will present a free documentary film, The Barn Raisers, on Friday, November 17 at 7 p.m., in the Empire Township Hall. The film explores Midwest barns through the lens of architecture, building methods, barn styles, and materials: what they tell us about the people who built them, the life they lived, and the role these “country cathedrals” played in the settling and building of our country. Directors Tammy and Kelly Rundle participated in the 2015 Leelanau County Barn Tour, and feature several area barns and residents in the film. Other footage is included from various Midwest states.
After the film, a question and answer session will be hosted by Steve Stier, Empire resident and vice president of the Michigan Barn Preservation Network, which is co-hosting the screening. Board members of the newly formed Leelanau County Historic Preservation Society will also provide updates on the progress towards saving the Leelanau County Poor Farm Barn at Miles Kimberly Park.
