League of Women Voters examines “broken” health care system

From staff reports

On Wednesday, February 7, at noon at the Leelanau County Government Center Lower Level Community Room the League of Women Voters Leelanau County will hold Part One of a forum entitled “Is Our Health Care System Broken?” featuring Kevin L. Seitz who will provide an overview of health care history and policy, leading up to where we are today.

Mr. Seitz’s professional career has spanned over 35 years of involvement in public and private health insurance in Michigan, with numerous leadership positions, including Associate Director for Human Services in the Michigan House Fiscal Agency, Director of the Michigan Medicaid Program, President and CEO of Blue Care Network, and Executive Vice President in Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. He retired from Blue Cross in 2010 and continues his involvement through health finance consulting and as a lecturer in the University of Michigan School of Public Health.

Part Two of “Is Our Health Care System Broken?” will be held on May 2 featuring Dr. Barbara Conley, an oncologist and medical consultant. She will bring the discussion to a personal and local level and provide insight as to how good policy results in improved health outcomes.

Both forums are open to the public. Many bring a sack lunch. A LWVLC business meeting will follow the forum. For more information on the LWVLC call 231-271-5600, visit LWVLeelanau.org or follow LWVLC on Facebook at League of Women Voters Leelanau County.
