Leelanau League of Women Voters holds County Commission candidate forums

The League of Women Voters of Leelanau County will hold four evenings of candidate forums featuring candidates for Leelanau County Board of Commissioners, starting tonight, Sept. 12, from 7-9 pm at the Leland Township Library. Citizens can also attend via Zoom. Visit the Leelanau League’s homepage for information to register.

The forum on Thursday, Sept. 12, will feature District 1 candidates Tim McCalley (Republican) and Rick Robbins (Democrat) and District 4 candidates Ty Wessell (incumbent, Democrat) and Jim White (Republican).

The forum on Wednesday, Sept. 18, will feature District 2 candidates Scott Perry (Democrat) and Mark Walter (Republican) and District 5 candidates Kama Ross (incumbent, Democrat) and Alan Campbell (Republican).

The forum on Thursday, Sept. 18, will feature District 6 candidates Gwenne Allgaier (incumbent, Democrat) and Mark Roberts (Republican) and District 7 candidates Tim Dowd (Democrat) and Steve Yoder (Republican).

The forum on Thursday, Oct. 3, will feature District 3 candidates Lois Bahle (Democrat) and Will Bunek (Republican) as well as Drain Commission candidates Faith Hoekstra and Tom O’Non.

The political makeup of the Board of Commissioners is currently deadlocked 3-3 after Democrat Jamie Kramer vacated her seat earlier this year.
