Glen Arbor Women’s Club presents five scholarship awards
From staff reports
The Glen Arbor Women’s Club (GAWC) has awarded scholarships to five Glen Lake High School graduates. The scholarships were awarded on the basis of academics, overall achievement and community volunteer activities.
Dawn Baldwin, the club president, presented the scholarships at the annual senior awards ceremony at Glen Lake High School on May 22. She presented four GAWC scholarships for $2,000 each to Alex Bennett, Molly Flerlage, Samantha Purifoy and Emily Sherwood.
She also presented the GAWC Extraordinary Achievement Award for $2,000 to Rebecca Brown. This award is for the student whose grades have improved the most from their freshman year to their senior year.
The Glen Arbor Women’s Club has supported community activities for more than 60 years. The major fundraiser for these scholarships and other community philanthropy is the annual “Running Bear 5K Run/Walk and ½ Mile Kids’ Run”. This year’s event will be held on July 22 at 9 a.m. in Glen Arbor. Further details on the Run are available at www.runningbearrun.com.
