Run faster than the bear at Glen Arbor’s Running Bear Run

Please join the Glen Arbor Women’s Club at the Running Bear 5K Run/Walk & ½ Mile Kids’ Run on Tuesday, July 28. Come out and take the challenge as the run takes off for its 19th year. What makes a beautiful summer day even better? Spending it with family and friends who take the challenge. You can run or walk the 5K. As a chip timed event, the Women’s Club has 16 categories from 10 & under to 80+ as well as an Overall Best Award for our top male and female runner. Winners will receive medals and prizes from Cherry Republic and Crystal River Outfitters and The Cyclery. Ninety percent of all proceeds go for college scholarships for Glen Lake students with the balance going for community projects.

This is the second year with chip timing for the Run. What makes a beautiful summer day even better? Spending it with family and friends who take the challenge. You can run or walk the 5K. As a chip timed event, we have added 6 age categories for males and females for a total of 16 categories from 10 & under to 80+. Winners will receive medals and prizes from Cherry Republic and Crystal River Outfitters and The Cyclery.

Running Bear Run now a chip-timed race

Glen Arbor’s annual Running Bear Run, a popular late July family dash which the Glen Arbor Women’s Club will hold for the 16th year on July 25, is now a chip-timed race. The Running Bear 5K Run/Walk & ½ Mile Kids’ Run features 16 age categories for males and females from ages 10 and under to 80 and older. Winners will receive medals and prizes from Cherry Republic and Crystal River Outfitters and The Cyclery. Youngsters running the ½ Mile Kids’ Run get to run with the Bear and take home a ribbon and a coupon for a free ice cream cone from Cherry Republic.

Run faster than the Bear!

On Tuesday, July 24, the Running Bear 5K Run/Walk & ½ Mile Kids’ Run takes off for its 12th year. What makes a beautiful summer day even better? Spending it with family and friends who take the challenge. You can run or walk the 5K. Runners compete in 10 different age categories from 10-and-under to 80-plus with first and second-place metals and prizes from Cherry Republic and Crystal River Outfitters and the Cyclery. In addition, the ½ Mile Kids’ Run is available for younger runners. They get to run with the Bear and take home a ribbon and a coupon for an ice cream cone from Riverfront Ice Cream. Bring the whole family and enjoy a great day.

Running Bear Run draws record crowd

A perfect, blue-sky day in Glen Arbor with cool temperatures brought 703 participants to the annual Running Bear Run on July 25. Sponsored by the Glen Arbor Women’s Club, the race raises about $11,00 each year and 100 percent of the net proceeds are used to fund college scholarships and community organizations.

Glen Arbor Women’s Club announces 2015 scholarship winners

The Glen Arbor Women’s Club is pleased to award scholarships to five outstanding young women graduating from Glen Lake High School. The scholarships were awarded on the basis of academics, community involvement, and overall achievement. The scholarships were presented by Carol Becker, representing the Women’s Club, at the Senior Awards Ceremony at Glen Lake High School on May 21.

Talented Mr. Ripley smashes Running Bear Run course record

Zack Ripley took first place at the Running Bear Run in Glen Arbor on July 23 with a 5K time of 15:37. The previous course record was 16:06. The Grand Rapids native ran with his wife Andi, who placed first in her age category. Ripley is a high school English and Social Studies teacher. “I usually run 10K races but we thought this would be a fun race to celebrate our fourth wedding anniversary”, he said.
