Join the Running Bear Run and take the Challenge

Upcoming Event

From staff reports

It doesn’t get any better than seeing all those cute kids ready to run their first race in the Running Bear Run’s ½ Mile Kids’ Run. They are so excited and can’t wait to start the race and beat the BEAR. Then there are the best runners from all over the area warming up and ready to hit the pavement in the 5K Run. But best of all is seeing the Grandmas and Grandpas walking or running with their families and the mom’s with their strollers pushing little ones along the race route. It is just fantastic to see everyone enjoying Glen Arbor’s annual Running Bear Run on Tuesday, July 26.

This is the 15th year for the Run and it is a favorite with the community. The area in front of Cherry Republic will again be turned into the start and finish line for the annual Running Bear Run. The 5K begins at 9 a.m. and the Kids’ Run follows at 9:05. All the proceeds from the run go directly to scholarships for Glen Lake High School graduates.

Looking ahead to the results, the 5K once again has great prizes courtesy of Cherry Republic and Crystal River Outfitters and the Cyclery. Winners receive a Cherry Republic gift box plus a kayak ride or a bike rental from Crystal River Outfitters and Cyclery. There is an Overall Best Female and Male winner and first and second place in each of the 10 age categories. The little ones will get a ribbon and an ice cream cone from Cherry Republic. Don’t forget our great raffle. Everyone entered in the 5K is eligible to win some great prizes donated by our wonderful local merchants. Last but not least is the After Run Party with lots of great food and excitement as the winners are announced.

The cost is $20 for the 5K Run/Walk ($25, the day of the Run) and $5 for the Kids’ Run. You can register from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. the day of the Run but we encourage you to sign up early by going online at www.RunningBearRun.com.Registration forms are available at Cherry Republic and M22 in Glen Arbor. An early registration will take place at the Glen Arbor Town Hall from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, July 25. You can register there and already registered runners can pick up their bibs as well. T-shirts will be available for pick up and purchase. For more information, call 231-409-0514.

Please join us for a fun-filled morning at the “Running Bear Run” on Tuesday, July 26. Come out and take the challenge. Can YOU run faster than the bear?
