Wayne State University Press just published a collection of creative nonfiction essays and stories by Michigan writers called ELEMENTAL. The collection is edited by Anne-Marie Oomen, an author, poet and teacher who lives in Empire. ELEMENTAL will celebrate its launch at the Glen Arbor Arts Center on Thursday, Nov. 15.
The Glen Lake Library in Empire will host two special presentations to help celebrate National Library Week: the documentary film Nothing Like Chocolate on April 12 and well-known local author Jerry Dennis on April 14.

This Memorial Day weekend, the Leelanau Press will publish a new book by photographer Ken Scott of the rare ice formations he captured this past winter off the shores of Lake Michigan in Leelanau County. Through his lens, the viewer will experience ice caves in early winter, after a March thaw and refreeze, ice balls, ridges, volcanoes and pancake ice in a color spectrum from white to green to blue. Words cannot describe the beauty of these unusual natural ice structures that only a few brave souls have experienced.
This is a unique opportunity to meet more than 20 local authors at one time in one location, in the Pine Patch at the Cottage Book Shop in Glen Arbor (rain location across the street at Bethlehem Lutheran Church).
