Running Bear Run returns July 23

From staff reports

Join the Glen Arbor Women’s Club for a fun filled day at the Running Bear 5K Run/Walk & ½ Mile Kids’ Run on Tuesday, July 23. Come out and take the challenge as the run takes off for its 17th year. This is the second year with chip timing for the Run.

What makes a beautiful summer day even better? Spending it with family and friends who take the challenge. You can run or walk the 5K. As a chip timed event, we have added 6 age categories for males and females for a total of 16 categories from 10 & under to 80+. Winners will receive medals and prizes from Cherry Republic and Crystal River Outfitters and The Cyclery.

In addition, we have the ½ Mile Kids’ Run for our younger runners.  They get to run with the Bear and take home a ribbon and a coupon for a free ice cream cone from Cherry Republic. Bring the whole family and enjoy a great day.

Our event is staged at Cherry Republic in Glen Arbor. Registration will be from 7:30 am. to 8:45 am. and the race will leave from the corner of Lake and State Streets at 9 am. The Kids’ Run follows at 9:05 am.  The race will start with the National Anthem and our Mascot “Running Bear” will cheer on all our runners and charm all the children.  She is on hand for your special photo ops.

After the Run, join the “Celebration!” The winners for each age category will be announced as well as the male and female overall best winners. We will have lots of great food and a raffle drawing for 25+ prizes. Everyone entered in the 5K Run is eligible for the drawing. You must be present to win.

Ninety percent of all proceeds go for college scholarships for Glen Lake students with the balance going for community projects.  Last year, the Glen Arbor Women’s Club gave out six scholarships totaling $15,000.

Please join us at the “Running Bear Run” on Tuesday, July 23. The cost is $25 for the 5K Run/Walk ($30, the day of the Run) and $5 for the Kids’ Run. You are encouraged to register early by visiting www.runningbearrun.com. An early registration will also take place at the Glen Arbor Town Hall from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, July 22. You can register there and already registered runners can pick up their bibs as well. A limited number of T-shirts will be available for purchase and ordered shirts can be picked up.  For more info, visit our website, www.runningbearrun.com or call 231-409-0514.
