The 2013 Fall for Art in Leelanau Gallery Tour will be Oct. 11-13. As part of that county-wide event the Glen Arbor Art Association will have an exhibition of GAAA members’ artwork. On display will be the paintings of over twenty GAAA members, including Hank Feeley, David Westerfield, Bonnie Gonzales, Chris Nettleton, James Bovard, Dennis Steele, Judith Shepelak, Wendy McWhorter, Cindy Graves, Lily LaFollette, Carolyn Hudson, and many others. Most of the pieces will be for sale.
Painter Connie Cronenwett of Dexter is the current Glen Arbor Art Association (GAAA) artist-in-residence. A public presentation of her work and experiences is Thursday, Oct. 24, 7:30 p.m. at the Art Association, 6031 S. Lake St. (Studio Lane), Glen Arbor.
Fiction writer Karen Hildebrandt is currently the Glen Arbor Art Association (GAAA) artist-in-residence. During her two-week stay, the Farmington Hills author wants to “spend time writing my novel” about a militant British Suffragette.
Pastel painter Jim Markle is the current artist-in-residence at the Glen Arbor Art Association (GAAA). The Grand Rapids artist will talk about his residency on Thursday, Sept. 26, at 7:30 p.m. at the GAAA. This presentation is open to the public.
Mark T. Meyer is the next Glen Arbor Art Association (GAAA) artist-resident. His working retreat begins Sept. 1, and will allow the Traverse City resident to study “the visual details that make up the vistas that attract us to the area,” he said.
A beautiful weekend on the Leelanau Peninsula greeted the 70 artists participating in the Glen Arbor Art Association’s (GAAA) fifth annual Plein Air Paint Out, Aug. 2-3. Expanded in 2012 to a two- day event, the Paint Out has become known as one of Michigan’s largest and most successful paint out events — drawing artists and art collectors from throughout the Midwest.

The Glen Arbor Art Association exhibits paintings by Barbara Doepke Cochran, Aug. 9-11 at the Art Association, 6031 S. Lake St. Cochran spends her time painting in the Chicago area, Boca Grand, Florida and nearby Maple City. After graduating from Principia College with an art major, she continued her art education at the American Academy of Art in Chicago. She pursued a career in graphic design for news shows, specials and was awarded a Chicago Emmy for an animated film. In recent years she has returned to painting oils and watercolors. The exhibit opens with an Aug. 9 reception from 6-9 p.m. Subsequent hours are Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday, 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
The Glen Arbor Art Association’s (GAAA) Plein Art Weekend is scheduled for Aug. 2-3. Artists from across Michigan and throughout the Midwest are registered to participate in this fifth annual event, which has become one of Michigan’s largest and most popular Paint Outs.
The Glen Arbor Art Association’s Manitou Music Festival, which is celebrating its 23rd season of jazz, classical, blues, folk, country, celtic, bluegrass and world music on the Leelanau Peninsula, hosts a wealth of summer concerts in the coming weeks. On Sunday, July 28 at 8 p.m. the bluegrass/country singer Nora Jane Struthers will perform with her quartet outdoors at Studio Stage, located at Lake Street Studios in Glen Arbor; on Wednesday, July 31 at 8 p.m. the Michigan born country/folk singer-songwriter Drew Nelson will perform with his Highway 2 Band; on Sunday, Aug. 4 at 8 p.m. the Folk band Peter, Paul & Mary Remembered will perform at Studio Stage, and on Wednesday, Aug. 7 at 8 p.m. the Celtic band Full Set will perform at Studio Stage. The rain location for all concerts is the Glen Arbor Town Hall, with the exception of Full Set, whose rain location is the Empire Town Hall.)
