Glen Arbor Art Association’s “Readers’ Theater” begins its 2013-2014 season with a tour de force production of Notorious, directed by veteran actor, director and co-chair of Readers’ Theater, Josephine Zara, and featuring the area’s talented thespians. “The fun and the satisfaction for me in directing at Readers’ Theater is in witnessing the tremendous growth of our community actors’ skills.” she says.

The Great Lakes Friends (GLF) of Safe Passage will hold its eighth annual fiesta on Saturday, Oct. 19, to help the children and families living and working in the area adjacent to the Guatemala City garbage dump. The fiesta celebrates the commitment of the Great Lakes community to Safe Passage’s educational and nurturing programs, which are helping Guatemalan children find a pathway out of generational cycles of extreme poverty.

The 2013 Fall for Art in Leelanau Gallery Tour will be Oct. 11-13. As part of that county-wide event the Glen Arbor Art Association will have an exhibition of GAAA members’ artwork. On display will be the paintings of over twenty GAAA members, including Hank Feeley, David Westerfield, Bonnie Gonzales, Chris Nettleton, James Bovard, Dennis Steele, Judith Shepelak, Wendy McWhorter, Cindy Graves, Lily LaFollette, Carolyn Hudson, and many others. Most of the pieces will be for sale.

The Empire Area Museum Complex celebrates Heritage Day at the museum on Saturday Oct. 12 from 1-4 p.m. Special features this year include a fantastic collection of hand made Faberge type eggs made in Empire in the 1970s by Helen Witt. A must see.
