From staff reports

Legendary local storyteller, Scott Craig, adapted his latest book for the stage. His comedy, Laughing in Leelanau, debuts at the Old Art Building in Leland at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 22. All proceeds from this one-of-a-kind production will go towards necessary upgrades for the building’s theater. Tickets are $100 and should be purchased in advance by contacting the Old Art Building.

Each ticket purchase includes a copy of Craig’s book, a cocktail, and entry to the show. A hilarious collection of tales and music, Laughing in Leelanau was released in book form two years ago. Check out our July 2020 feature story on Craig. Local actors and beloved musicians will deliver the performance comprised of comical anecdotes collected from over 100 locals and old Leelanau Enterprise articles.

Craig is a retired television producer, director and writer who worked for NBC and CBS-owned stations in Chicago. Craig and his work received over 100 awards, including a National Emmy and 32 Emmys from Chicago’s Chapter of the Television Academy. Craig also created “The Story Next Door,” a popular Interlochen Public Radio station series and book recounting 44 human-interest tales from people in Northern Michigan.

“In my 45 years of producing television programs, I received hundreds and hundreds of assignments,” Craig shared. “However, my favorite assignment is the one I gave myself: Go out into Leelanau County and find every funny story you possibly can. What a complete joy that turned out to be.”
