Old Art Building talk examines “Immigration in America: What the Data Really Shows”

Immigration is one of the most talked-about and divisive issues in America. Separating headlines from facts can feel overwhelming. On Thursday, April 9, from 5:30-7:30 pm at the Old Art Building in Leland, community members are invited to a free discussion that uses data to cut through confusion and show what the numbers actually say. The program is presented in partnership with Mobile Pathways, an award-winning technology nonprofit whose immigration analysis has been featured by major outlets in the United States and abroad and recognized internationally for its impact.

Old Art Building hosts evening with Abra Berens and friends

The Friends of the Leland Township Library will hold a fundraising event on Saturday, May 13, at 7 pm, featuring renowned chef and cookbook author Abra Berens. The event, titled “An Evening with Abra Berens & Friends” will be held at the Old Art Building in Leland. At the event, Abra will introduce her newest book Pulp: A Practical Guide to Cooking with Fruit, and engage in a lively conversation with local fruit growers Gene Garthe, Nikki Rothwell and Pete Laing, all of whom are featured in the book.

Scott Craig’s Laughing in Leelanau debuts at Old Art Building

Legendary local storyteller, Scott Craig, adapted his latest book for the stage. His comedy, Laughing in Leelanau, debuts at the Old Art Building in Leland at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 22. All proceeds from this one-of-a-kind production will go towards necessary upgrades for the building’s theater. Tickets are $100 and should be purchased in advance by contacting the Old Art Building.
