Talk About Art begins sixth season at Glen Arbor Art Association
From staff reports
In the Talk About Art series Sarah Bearup-Neal conducts live interviews with local and regional artists about their art making and thinking. These insightful interviews take place monthly at 7:30 p.m., at the Glen Arbor Art Association (GAAA) at no charge.
The 2014 Talk About Art season begins with the words and iconic images of Leelanau County photographer Ken Scott, January 30, 7:30 p.m. at the GAAA. Scott’s work is seen weekly in the Leelanau Enterprise “Back Page,” a full-page photograph of an ephemeral moment or place that captures the essence of Leelanau County. Scott’s keen eye and quick response to these fleeting moments distinguishes his work in the medium of landscape photography. This self-taught photographer has practiced his craft for over 20 years. Scott has published five collections of images depicting Leelanau County and other northern Michigan places.
Talk About Art continues the conversation with these artists:
Feb. 20: Contemporary folk artist Jesse Hickman depicts boats, fish and the water through mixed media, 3-D constructions, tar painting and pencil sketches. The Northport artist brings his wry, whimsical work to life with recycled and unconventional materials.
March 13: Singer-songwriter Blake Elliott makes some of her signature music at the GAAA. This versatile musician is the child of a piano and guitar-playing mother and an Interlochen-trained percussionist father. Elliott, a Traverse City resident, creates music inspired by the natural beauty of her home and “this big adventure called ‘Life.’” Her instrument of choice is the guitar, and she’ll talk about how it’s helping her make her way through a maze of concert dates and the new world of recorded music.
April 24: Scott Craig — writer, documentary filmmaker and, lately, creator of the radio series “The Story Next Door” — will talk about story making, storytelling and the book and stage production that have arisen from his Interlochen Public Radio program. Craig, who lives in Leland, is a genial storyteller focused on neighbors and other interesting people he meets in the region.
