Readers’ Theater or perform On Golden Pond
From staff reports
The Glen Arbor Art Association (GAAA) Readers’ Theater will hold auditions for On Golden Pond, Sept. 6, at 7 p.m. at the Glen Lake Community Reformed Church, 4902 W. MacFarlane Road in Burdickville. The Readers’ Theater production offers roles for three men, three women and one teenage boy.
Ernest Thompson’s 1979 play focuses on aging couple Ethel and Norman Thayer, who spend each summer at their home on a lake called Golden Pond. During the year the story takes place, they are visited by daughter Chelsea with her fiancé Billy Ray and his son Billy Ray Jr. The play explores the often turbulent relationship the young woman shared with her father growing up, and the difficulties faced by a couple in the twilight years of a long marriage.
On Golden Pond is directed by Ron Smith, and is presented by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc., New York. It will be staged at Glen Lake Community Reformed Church on Oct. 20-21. Rehearsals take place between September and October. Copies of the script will be available beginning August 15 at the GAAA’s offices, 6654 Western Avenue. The GAAA is open 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information call 231-334-6112.
