Art Association welcomes Pennsylvania printmaker

News

From staff reports

Pennsylvania artist and printmaker L.C. Lim will present her work during her residency at the Glen Arbor Art Association on Thursday, Oct. 11 at 7:30 p.m. The award winning artist teaches painting at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and in Frankfort, Mich., during the summer. Her work is exhibited at the River Gallery in Frankfort. Prior to her career as an artist, Lim studied engineering and business to put herself through the University of Michigan. She became successful in corporate America managing a large division of a Fortune 100 company before realizing that she was not satisfying an important part of her “inner being.”

She left the business world to study art at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. Since then she has had many honors including being selected for the Ross School of Business art collection at the University of Michigan. She was the second place winner of the Crystal Lake Art Center juried show in 2008 and the winner of the Crystal Lake Art Center Board Award in 2009. Her work is in the Dow Chemical Collection and numerous private collections.

Lim says her work is “inspired by an emotional response to nature.” She paints in watercolor and pastel and shows a special relationship with trees in the landscape. “I paint portraits of trees with their families, lovers and friends.” Her style is delicate and Japanese-like. Her floral still life watercolors are simple and direct. Lim is also a printmaker skilled in etching and monoprint. Photography is another medium that Lim uses to express her relationship to nature.

During her artist-in-residence two-week stay in Glen Arbor she looks forward to exploring the Leelanau Peninsula and creating a body of work of the area.

The presentation takes place at the Glen Arbor Art Association building at 6031 S. Lake Street (unpaved driveway across from the Cherry Republic). There is no charge for the event and light refreshments will be served.
