Main Street Gallery, Old Art Building hold celebration exhibit

From staff reports

Main Street Gallery and the Old Art Building in Leland announce a celebration of the artists and history of Main Street Gallery on June 14 from 5:30-7:30 pm, with remarks to be made at 6:30 p.m. This event also highlights the opening of the “Artists of Main Street Gallery” exhibit to be held at the Old Art Building from June 14-18. This exhibit will feature fine art from the artists who have shown their work at and fueled the life of Main Street Gallery over much of its history.  The exhibit will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. Visit OldArtBuilding.com for a list of participating artists.

For more than 35 years, Main Street Gallery showed fine art and served art patrons from its location at 307 South Main Street in Leland. Main Street Gallery closed at the end of 2023 when its property sold to a new owner. Daniel and Anna Oginsky acquired the gallery in 2017 from its founder Malcolm Chatfield, and continue to own the gallery as a business. There currently are no plans to move or re-open the gallery in a new location, but the Oginskys hope to find new opportunities to cultivate the arts with the Main Street Gallery platform. This celebration and exhibit in June will be a first step in that direction, while also honoring the artists and history of the gallery in Leland, in partnership with the Old Art Building.
