Bay Theatre launches “Live at the Bay” entertainment series
From staff reports
The Bay Community Theatre is launching a new live entertainment series in downtown Suttons Bay called “Live at the Bay,” with the inaugural Fall 2024 season featuring artists from across Michigan and the United States, including renowned a cappella, comedy, live film accompaniment, and jazz/blues performances.
The Fall 2024 season kicks off Saturday, Sept. 14, at 7 pm with TBD a cappella, a popular men’s group from Detroit who use only their voices and a beat-box to recreate well-known pop hits and funny original songs. Fans of “Glee” won’t want to miss this family-friendly and interactive show! With a repertoire including popular artists ranging from Sara Bareilles, Jason Mraz, and Charlie Puth to The Eagles, Bon Jovi, and James Taylor, this show has something for all music lovers. TBD a cappella is sure to have audiences smiling and tapping their toes!
The season continues on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 7 pm with John Heffron, national standup comedian and winner of NBC’s “Last Coming Standing.” John’s humor resonates with audiences of all ages, making him a household name in the world of comedy. From his childhood adventures to his experiences as a married man, stepfather, and grandfather, John shares life’s funny and inspiring moments that everyone can relate to. His clean, uplifting humor doesn’t tear down life but celebrates it, making you laugh while reflecting on universal triumphs and failures. John’s appearances on “The Tonight Show,” “The Late Late Show,” HBO, FX, VH1, A&E, and CMT have solidified his reputation as a top-notch comedian. Popular local comedian Devin Keast—who has performed at the Traverse City Comedy Fest, the Salem Comedy Festival, and the World Series of Comedy—will open the show. Enjoy two great comedy performances for the price of one!
The next event in the Fall 2024 series is on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 7 pm with Gramps the Vamp and “Nosferatu.” Back at the Bay by popular demand, Chicago-based Maxx McGathey and doom-funk band Gramps the Vamp get audiences in the Halloween spirit playing an original composition to accompany the 1922 silent vampire film “Nosferatu” as it plays on the screen. With a high-profile remake of “Nosferatu” set to debut in theaters this Christmas, film fans can enjoy a rare opportunity to see the original on the big screen – complete with live music accompaniment!
The Fall 2024 season of “Live at the Bay” wraps up on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 7 pm with the Paxton-Spangler Band. Vibrant Detroit jazzmen RJ Spangler and Tbone Paxton front a five-piece band performing storied jazz and blues classics. From Duke Ellington to Louis Jordan to the hottest hits out of New Orleans, this band’s ebullient immersion into some of the greatest music of our time really cooks!
Tickets to individual shows will go on sale to the public on Saturday, August 31. Individual shows are $20 each except for John Heffron, which is $25. Ticketing and event information is available at TheBayTheatre.com.
