M22 Art2Art Tour features Leelanau’s artistic talent

From staff reports

Visitors often come to northern Michigan in October for beautiful fall colors, wine tours, and for one or two more trips to the Sleeping Bear Dunes before chilly temperatures arrive. This year, both tourists and locals alike will have the opportunity to visit four pop-up art galleries throughout Leelanau County.

The M22 Art2Art Tour, Oct. 5-7, will feature award-winning work from nearly 40 Michigan artists. The tour will take place at four venues along M-22, each stop centered around a specific medium. Art will be on display and for purchase on Oct. 5 from 5-8:30 p.m. (in all locations except the Old Art Building), Oct. 6 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Oct. 7 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

There’s an incredible amount of artistic talent in northern Michigan,” says show director Bill Perkins. “We are tapping some of the best artists in the region. We want to give the arts community of northern Michigan an opportunity to showcase their work during one of the most beautiful times of year.”

The Suttons Bay Friendship Center will feature ceramics and tile work by renowned clay artists Laurie Eisenhardt and Paul Wilson. The pop-up gallery at the Northport Arts Center will feature furniture and sculpture from nearly 20 award-winning artists in a variety of style, ranging from rustic, sustainable furniture by Bill Perkins, to the psychedelic, to contemporary work from artists like Jason Sharp and Larry Fox. The Old Art Building in Leland will feature a wide selection of fiber work, from intricate fiber collages by Char Bickel to hand painted yarn by Chris Roosien. At the Township Hall in Glen Arbor, you’ll find an open gallery of vibrant painting and sculpture work by Jeff Condon and Angela Saxon.
