The Glen Lake Community Library will present a free documentary film, The Barn Raisers, on Friday, November 17 at 7 p.m., in the Empire Township Hall. The film explores Midwest barns through the lens of architecture, building methods, barn styles, and materials: what they tell us about the people who built them, the life they lived, and the role these “country cathedrals” played in the settling and building of our country.

Cherry Republic plans to hire as many as 200 additional “elves” to help meet the anticipated gift-giving demand at its Empire Distribution & Fulfillment Center this holiday season. The League of Women Voters Leelanau County (LWVLC) will host a forum entitled Local Consequences of Worker Shortages in Leelanau County on Wednesday, Nov. 1, at noon in the lower level community meeting room of the Leelanau County Government Center.

Do you like to play in the snow? Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is recruiting up to two winter interns to assist with snowshoe field trips and weekend hikes. The internship will start in early January and last until mid-March. Work includes presenting curriculum-based lessons and activities on topics such as winter ecology, animal adaptations, snow science, and National Park Service mission and history.

The Glen Arbor Art Association (GAAA) Readers’ Theater will hold auditions for “Remember The Night,” Monday, October 23, 7 p.m. at the Glen Lake Community Reformed Church, 4902 W. MacFarlane Road in Burdickville. This Readers’ Theater production offers roles for 4-6 men, 4-6 women, and other miscellaneous characters. Some roles may be cast regardless of gender.
