As everyone in Glen Lake Laker Land basks in the glow of both the women’s and men’s basketball teams’ awesome March Madness runs and the strong 7-3 season the football team had last fall, can’t you just hear the whispers already: Laker Dome?
On Wednesday, March 7, at noon at the Leelanau County Government Center lower level community room the League of Women Voters Leelanau County will hold a forum on the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA).

March is national Youth Art Month. The Glen Arbor Arts Center (GAAC) celebrates the work of young creatives with an exhibition by Glen Lake Elementary School sixth graders taught by Leah Lawson, Glen Lake Elementary art teacher, and the GAAC’s After School Art kids led by instructor Sarah Cheek-Toomey. The show runs from March 1-23.

Online registration for the M22 Challenge opens Thursday, March 1, at 8 a.m. The annual event is capped at 900 athletes and in the past several years has reached capacity within 15 minutes. This year’s M22 Challenge will be held Saturday, June 9.

Special Sunday ranger-led snowshoe hikes are being added to the program calendar at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore this winter. In addition to their regularly scheduled Saturday hikes, snowshoe hikes will be offered on Sundays at 1 p.m., Feb. 4 and 11. Meet at the National Lakeshore’s Philip A. Hart Visitor Center in Empire. The Glen Lake Library in Empire will host a presentation about the uses of essential oils on Tuesday, February 13, at 7 p.m. Essential oils extracted from plants have been used for thousands of years for relaxation, beauty care, cleaning, and most often for aromatherapy, a holistic treatment to improve physical, mental and emotional health.

Glen Arbor holds its annual Winterfest on Saturday, Feb. 17. Festivities begin at 7 a.m. with Perch Fishing on the Glen Lakes, followed by the Contest & Awards plus a Chili-Cook off beginning at Noon at Boonedocks in Glen Arbor.
