The 12th annual Port Oneida Run—an event of the National Park’s nonprofit partner Preserve Historic Sleeping Bear—will take place on Saturday, August 3. The run starts and ends at the big red barn and lawn area at the Olsen Farm/Port Oneida Farms Heritage Center, just four miles north of Glen Arbor. It is the only race that winds through the beautiful scenery of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore’s Port Oneida Rural Historic District. With its historic farms and barns, Port Oneida is hailed as one of the most prized historic landscapes in the country and should be on every runner’s bucket list.

Historic Sleeping Bear will hold its ninth annual Port Oneida Heritage Run/walk on Saturday, Aug. 4 at the Port Oneida Farms Heritage Center/Olsen farm. The fundraiser for the nonprofit partner of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore supports preservation of the National Park’s historic structures.

There are dozens of Leelanau County races that I love, but the Port Oneida Heritage Race takes the cake. This event offers three distances to choose from on August 5; the Homesteaders Hillier 5k, Tiller’s 10k, and Fast and Flat 4-Mile. I had the opportunity to catch up with Susan Pocklington, director of the nonprofit Preserve Historic Sleeping Bear, and together we gushed about this amazing event.

The sixth annual Port Oneida Heritage Run on Aug. 1 will traverse the beautiful scenery of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore and support Preserve Historic Sleeping Bear (PHSB), in its effort to maintain the Park’s historic resources.

The third annual Port Oneida Run — a 5K Barn to Barn Trail Run/Walk in the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore will take place on Saturday, August 4. The natural trail offers an inspiring alternative to paved courses, meandering through beautiful meadows, forests, and the pastoral landscape of farmsteads from the late 1800s in the Port Oneida Rural Historic District with bluff views over Lake Michigan.
