Port Oneida Heritage Run returns Aug. 6

Run or walk to support the preservation of farms and other historic structures in the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Preserve Historic Sleeping Bear will host its seventh annual Port Oneida Heritage Run on Saturday, Aug. 6, at the Charles and Hattie Olsen Farm, located at 3164 W Harbor Hwy (M-22) in Maple City; just three miles north of Glen Arbor. Races include a 5K, 10K, and Kid’s ¼ mile Schoolhouse Dash through the scenic Historic District of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. The 5K is a trail run/walk and the 10K weaves through gravel back roads, trails, and a portion of Lake Michigan beach. There will be unique awards for nine age categories as well as music and food, with proceeds supporting Preserve Historic Sleeping Bear’s mission as a nonprofit partner of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, to preserve and interpret the many historic structures and landscapes in the park.
