On Monday, Feb. 23, the League of Women Voters Leelanau County, along with Child and Family Services of Northwestern Michigan, Samaritans’ Closet, Leelanau Peninsula Chamber of Commerce, Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians, Leelanau Early Childhood Development Commission, NW Michigan Association for Infant Mental Health and the Leelanau County Family Coordinating Council will show a second episode in The Raising of America documentary series: “Once Upon a Time: When Childcare for All Wasn’t Just a Fairytale.”

The League of Women Voters Leelanau County (LWVLC) will host a presentation titled “A Great Start for All Children” featuring Mary Manner at noon on Wednesday, May 7, in the Leelanau County Government Center. Manner will discuss the Great Start Collaborative’s work on the 5 to ONE project, a rural model for an early childhood system of resources across a five-county service area that includes Leelanau County.
Next Wednesday, April 2, the League of Women Voters of Leelanau County will host a public forum at noon at the Leelanau County Government Center to discuss the risks of oil and gas development in Michigan and potential solutions. Dr. Christopher Grobbel of Grobbel Environmental and Planning Associates will address the following topics.
The League of Women Voters Leelanau County (LWVLC) Energy Committee will host a public forum on “Community Energy Resilience: How do we achieve it?” Tuesday evening February 25 from 6-9 p.m. in the Leelanau County Government Center. The League’s goal is to create community conversations related to saving energy, generating electricity, and learning how “less can be more”, all related to building resilience in the face of energy issues that are and will continue to impact our community.

The students will be there at 6:30 to meet the audience. Refreshments will be provided.
The League of Women Voters Leelanau County (LWVLC) will host retired Michigan Supreme Court Justice Marilyn Kelly at the Old Art Building in Leland on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. Her presentation topic is “Improvements Needed in Michigan Courts”. The event is a fundraiser for the newly independent League of Women Voters Leelanau County. The suggested donation is $10. Refreshments will be served.
