South Haven, Mich., artist Susan L. Anderson’s Glen Lake Splendor is the Glen Arbor Arts Center’s (GAAC) iconic 2021 Manitou Music poster image. The Manitou Music concert series, one of the GAAC’s summer highlights, is paused for 2021 due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Traverse City artist Joan Richmond is exhibiting collages at the Glen Arbor Arts Center (GAAC). Paper + Scissors + Glue = New Collages, her exhibition of 12 new works, will be on display in the GAAC Lobby Gallery from January 15 until April 22.

The Glen Arbor Arts Center seeks submissions for its upcoming, juried exhibition Food Is Art / Art Is Food, which runs May 28-August 19, 2021. Applications will be accepted through April 15. A prospectus and online application are now available for review by clicking here.

The Glen Arbor Arts Center (GAAC) will light up its neck of the woods and you are invited to participate. On Saturday, December 5, the GAAC will light the path from Lake Street to the Arts Center and present a community tree. The tree will remain lit for the season, though New Year’s Day. The GAAC will invite the community to stroll by throughout the holiday season to take a look, snap photos, and spread the cheer.

Early on, when it became obvious that COVID-19 meant indoor programming at the Glen Arbor Arts Center (GAAC) could not go forward, the GAAC staff began brainstorming alternatives. That’s when the 6ft Apart Art series came to be. On Saturday, September 19, the Arts Center will offer the second 6ft Apart Art artist demonstrations in the driveway. All the exhibitors will work, and show a little of what they do and how they do it—from painting, to creating a collage, to techniques involved with building twig furniture.

The Glen Arbor Arts Center is accepting submissions of original paintings for its 2021 Manitou Music poster competition. The deadline for on-line submissions is September 17. This call-for-submissions is open to all current GAAC members. There is no application fee.

Come see the Glen Arbor Arts Center’s (GAAC) Members Create exhibition. This annual exhibition showcasing members’ talents runs July 24-August 27 at the GAAC gallery, located at 6031 S. Lake St., in Glen Arbor. On display are 25 works in both 2D and 3D from northern Michigan artists and beyond.

The Glen Arbor Arts Center is moving art outdoor as part of its 6ft Apart Art series of creative, pop-up events. The first event is the Clothesline Exhibit, July 24 – August 27. Open to the public, the challenge is to create an unframed painting, drawing, photograph or collage on a single sheet of paper that creatively interprets northern Michigan’s landscape and woodlands. Each work will be placed in a sealed plastic envelope and pinned to a clothesline in front of the GAAC building at 6031 S. Lake St., Glen Arbor.

To fill the gap created by coronavirus-related cancellations, the Glen Arbor Arts Center will continue to develop and facilitate all programming virtually through December 31. Plans are in process for converting the GAAC’s signature summer painting event, the Plein Air Weekend, to a virtual format. A variety of virtual classes and instruction are in development.

The Glen Arbor Arts Center seeks entries for two upcoming exhibitions, Power Tools and Art In The Time Of Coronavirus. The exhibitions are scheduled for September 11–November 5.
