Since the 1990s, the Glen Arbor Arts Center (GAAC) has welcomed visiting artists who want to immerse themselves in their work. The GAAC’s Suzanne Wilson Artist-in-Residence program offers up to seven, creative practitioners a two-week respite from their daily lives in order to focus on a new idea that needs space and time to develop, to an on-going project that might be nearing conclusion.

The Glen Arbor Arts Center’s (GAAC) iconic Manitou Music series has been captured in a new compilation CD. Jack Conners, the former Manitou Music Series director and owner of Perfect World Studios in Traverse City, has curated and produced a selection of eclectic and inspired music from the Manitou Music 2013-2018 concert seasons.

The Glen Arbor Arts Center (GAAC) is canceling the August 27 opening reception for its new exhibition Everyday Objects. The ongoing challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic have made large, indoor gatherings difficult. In deference to public health and safety, the tradition of opening receptions will resume when the pandemic has passed.

The Glen Arbor Arts Center will host the Traverse City Dance Project [TCDP] and the Traverse City Orchestra string quartet for an evening of orchestral music and dance at its Thoreson Farm campus tonight, August 11, at 7 pm. The event is sold out.

What happens when an artist gets her hands on a common, everyday object, and begins to reimagine it? That’s the challenge behind the Glen Arbor Arts Center’s exhibition Everyday Objects. The exhibitions runs August 27-October 28. Online applications for this juried show may be submitted through July 15.

The Glen Arbor Arts Center (GAAC) hosts Feed Me!, an evening of poetry and prose about feeding the mind, body and spirit, on Friday, June 11, at 7 pm. Feed Me! is part of the Glen Arbor Arts Center’s exhibition Food Is Art/Art Is Food, which runs until August 19 in the GAAC gallery. The event is free and open to the public.

All five panels from the Glen Arbor Arts Center’s (GAAC) inaugural Outdoor Gallery exhibition are now available for acquisition. The GAAC will hold an online auction April 28-30. The 5-foot square artworks are reproductions of original, acrylic paintings by Empire artist Mark Mehaffey, winner of the 2020 Outdoor Gallery competition.

The Glen Arbor Arts Center’s 12th Plein Air Weekend is scheduled for August 6-7. Northern Michigan’s premier painting weekend, featuring artists from throughout Michigan and the Midwest, is Glen Arbor Arts Center’s largest fundraiser. This popular alfresco event takes place throughout Glen Arbor and Empire. Returning in 2021 are the August 6 Quick Draw and August 7 Paint Out events. Due to COVID-19, the Sundowner has been canceled this year. Online registration opens March 24 at 9:30 am. The August 7 Paint Out is limited to 70 artists. Registration takes place online at GlenArborArt.org and continues until full. There is no registration limit for the Quick Draw.
