Respect fireworks
Letter to the Editor
This July Fourth we celebrated the variety of opportunities that make us unique as a country, and feel it is important to remember the responsibilities that come with those opportunities. The law allows us to celebrate with our own personal fireworks, and that has resulted in both some beautiful displays and hazardous situations.
While enjoying and adding our own colors to the night’s fireworks show around the bay, we were reminded more vividly than anyone truly wants to be about the dangers inherent in fireworks. There were a number of extremely dangerous situations in our neighborhood that resulted in both fire and fear.
We were extremely thankful for the quick response of the Glen Lake Fire Department and we encourage people to be mindful when enjoying these potentially hazardous materials. When you misuse them or handle them in an unsafe manner, you put you, your family, your neighbors, and the firefighters at risk.
We ask that you please celebrate responsibly, and we send out our sincere thanks to the Glen Lake Fire Department for all that they do and for their responsiveness and professionalism on a night that has particularly higher demands on their attentions with the addition of fireworks, sky lanterns and beach fires.
