Alligator Hill – Which Way to Recovery?

Investigative Article

New online magazine, NatureChange.org, takes on Northern Michigan stories about conservation and climate change

The super storm of August 2, 2015, blew down hundreds of acres of hardwood trees throughout the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Alligator Hill, one of the most popular hiking locations near Glen Arbor, suffered the most damage, leaving heaps of tree strewn about and causing fears of future fire threats.

Sun editor Jacob Wheeler filed this story and narrated an accompanying video about the difficult decisions facing the National Lakeshore on Alligator Hill for NatureChange.org, a new website that covers conservation and climate in Northern Michigan.

Watch it here:

This piece was informed by writer Linda Dewey’s reporting in November 2015.
