It’s a boat. No a fish. No, a Christmas tree!

SiepkerFloatingChristmasTreeChristmas greetings in Glen Arbor adorn the front of Art’s Tavern, the tree in front of the Township Hall, and countless homes along M-22. In Glen Lake, there’s a floating homage to the season, too.

For the second year in a row, Frank Siepker, Jr., launched a Christmas Tree Boat approximately 550 feet from the family property on the south shore of Big Glen Lake, near the Narrows. The Douglas Fir tree sits on a raft which is held in place by an anchor. Siepker uses a solar battery and timer to light the tree every evening between 5:30 and 10:30 p.m.

Siepker hopes to keep the floating tree on Glen Lake until New Years or until the surface water threatens to freeze — which this year appears unlikely for months.

Check out a video of the lit tree at night on Siepker’s Facebook page.
