Leelanau Summinars returns to Leland Library

Leelanau Summinars have returned to the Leland Township Public Library. The Leland Library Summinars program offers thought-provoking seminars across a wide variety of engaging topics. The 2024 lineup includes the following dates, all of which start at 10 am. (The series opened on May 23 with “The Novels of Louise Penny” with Robert VanDellen, Ph.D.):

  • June 4: The Evolution of Writing: Bridging the Digital Divide with Cody Cook-Parrott and Molly Moynahan
  • June 24: The Odawa People: History and Culture with JoAnne Cook
  • July 15: The War in Gaza – An Historical Perspective with Dr. Christina Michelmore
  • July 23: Addressing Food Insecurity Part 1: From the Heart with Emily Kanitz, Bill White and Michelle White of 5Loaves2Fish
  • July 30: Addressing Food Insecurity Part 2: Coordinating Efforts and Empowering Communities with Christina Barkel (Groundwork), Rachael Cougler (Northwest Michigan Food Coalition) and Taylor Moore (Food Rescue)
  • August 20: Current State of Youth Mental Health Concerns with Dr. Joanna Quigley
  • September 12: Farming in an Uncertain Climate with Dr. Nikki Rothwell

By incorporating a wide range of subjects, from literature and history to social issues, mental health, and environmental concerns, the Leelanau Library hopes to advance its goal of promoting literacy, appreciating cultures, encouraging critical thinking, and building community.

There is no cost to attend the series, and registration is not required. All Summinars will be held in the Leland Township Library Munnecke Room and seating is on a first come, first served basis. More information can be found at lelandlibrary.org/summinars.
