Leelanau Sheriffs to hold mass casualty training, June 6

The Leelanau County Sheriff’s Office and the Leelanau County Office of Emergency Management will host a mass casualty training event on Wednesday, June 6, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Leelanau County Sheriff’s Office located at 8525 E. Government Center Drive in Suttons Bay. This event is open to all Law Enforcement, Fire and EMS personnel who serve in Leelanau County, as well as the Leelanau County Road Commission, American Red Cross, Salvation Army and local media. The entire Government Center grounds will be a secured area and all participants will need to arrive early to ensure all equipment has been safety checked.
This training event will simulate a vehicle borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) at a jail facility causing multiple injuries and deaths and allowing multiple inmate to escape. Jail personnel will exercise their command structure for accountability and evacuation of all inmates. Police, Fire and EMS will respond to the Leelanau County Jail for tactical and rescue operations. The area will be teeming with evidence to challenge proper preservation and documentation techniques. The entire grounds will be utilized for search and rescue operations.
