League of Women Voters highlights women voting

News

From staff reports

The League of Women Voters Leelanau will hold their annual meeting and dinner on Wednesday, May 22, at 5:30 pm at The Leelanau School. In celebration of the 100-year anniversary of the League of Women Voters Michigan in April 2019 and passage of the 19th Amendment in 2020, the League will feature Elaine Weiss, author of The Woman’s Hour: The Great Fight to Win the Vote as the keynote speaker. Coincidently, May 22 is also the day that Michigan ratified the Equal Rights Amendment in 1972. It was the Leelanau League that at the national convention of the LWVUS last July successfully added ratification of the ERA by remaining states required to the national program.

Learn more about the annual meeting and dinner on the home page LWVLeelanau.org.

Elaine Weiss will also appear from 1:30-3 p.m. on May 22 at Bay Books in Suttons Bay to sign her book The Woman’s Hour: The Great Fight to Win the Vote.
