Josh White, Jr., plays Fountain Point Resort

From staff reports

Lake Leelanau’s Fountain Point Resort is pleased to announce an upcoming concert featuring the legendary Josh White, Jr. This performance by White is set for Friday evening, June 27, at 8 p.m. on the porch of Fountain Point’s Lodge overlooking Lake Leelanau.

As a concert artist, White has performed on the world’s greatest stages on four continents, including the Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Odeon Hammersmith Hall, Berlin Philharmonic Hall and Madision Square Garden to name just a few.

White has had a long and distinguished career in all sorts of performances. From 1963 through the ’80s, White headlined more than 2000 college concerts. At the peak of this folk boom, in the mid ’60s through the late ’70s, White was considered one of NACA’s most celebrated and honored performing artists. C. Shaw Smith, from Davidson College, North Carolina, penned him the ‘Dean of College Concert Attractions’.

The magic of his performances has perhaps best been captured with these words from the Big City Blues Magazine:

“There is a richness and musical fulfillment here from the simple balladeer playing his guitar and singing with an integrity reserved for masters. His guitar picking and rhythm action are tremendously artistic, stretching each note and ringing the strings. From the opening song, the authenticity oozes. Josh White, Jr. could teach a course on premium vocals and attention to fine guitar action. White’s voice will not disappoint! His music stands tall on well-chosen material, perfectionist guitar work, And a voice as rich, real, and appealing as it comes.”

The front porch of the Fountain Point Lodge will provide a perfect setting to enjoy a concert by White and his special guest, Cliff Gracey. On this summer night in June, folks are most welcome to come early and picnic on the grounds prior to the performance. This outdoor evening of music is set for Friday June 27th at 8 p.m at the Fountain Point Resort which is located at 990 S. Lake Leelanau Drive (Highway 641). As part of this evening, there will be an artist ‘afterglow’ wine/cheese reception in the Fountain Point Lodge. (In the event of rain, the performance will be held in the Green Room of the Lodge.)
