From staff reports
A special holiday tradition continues this season as the Friends of the Glen Lake Library hold their 22nd annual call for children’s books. In cooperation with the Leelanau Health Department, Glen Lake School, Parenting Communities and Head Start, the book drive once again collects donations of new children’s books for children whose families need assistance this holiday season.
Liaison Kathy Bartell works together with the Leelanau Health Department to compile a “wish list” of boys and girls from preschool through age 12.
Any family can find themselves in hard times and the goal is to make sure the children still have some holiday joy in the form of a special book. The list is available at the new Glen Lake Library in Empire and at the Cottage Book Shop in Glen Arbor. Donors are asked to purchase a book for a child on this list and deliver it gift-wrapped to the library or the Cottage Book Shop by December 12. The Cottage Book Shop in Glen Arbor will provide a 20% discount on any books purchased for the drive and will giftwrap and deliver the books.
Donations collected for the book drive will directly benefit the local community.
