Glen Arbor prepares for Fourth of July festivities

Upcoming Event

From staff reports

Cherries are still delicious, Lake Michigan is still wet, Ulysses S. Grant is still buried in Grant’s Tomb, and the Glen Arbor Fourth of July parade is still happening on—you guessed it—the Fourth. That’s despite an erroneous post on the Glen Arbor Township’s Facebook page, and a false local media report, which assigned the Fourth of July parade to July 2. Nope, it’s still on the Fourth.

Here’s the lineup of what other events are scheduled for Independence Day weekend in Glen Arbor and around Leelanau County:

Friday, July 3:

• NMC Concert Band plays patriotic music, 7:30 pm in Glen Arbor Township park

• Leland holds public fireworks display, Hancock Field at dusk (9 pm)

Saturday, July 4, Independence Day:

• 10 am: “Declaration of Independence” reading at all County post offices

• 10 am: Glen Lake Woman’s Club Flag Raising Ceremony and singalong at Old Settlers Picnic Grounds

• Fourth of July parade, lines up and departs from Glen Haven at 11, arrives in Glen Arbor shortly after noon

• Boat Parade through Glen Lake Narrows, meet in front of the Glen Lake Yacht Club at 3 pm

• Leland holds Fourth of July parade, 3 pm

• Northport holds public fireworks display, Haserot Park, 10 pm

Sunday, July 5:

• Glen Lake Fire Department pancake breakfast at Township Hall, 8 am-12 pm

• Bicentennial Barn rededication and open house, corner of M22 and Bohemian Road, 11 am-4 pm
