Glen Arbor Art Association features Peggy Godwin, Wendy McWhorter
From staff reports
The Glen Arbor Art Association (GAAA) is hosting an exhibition of paintings by Peggy Godwin and Wendy McWhorter, Aug. 22-23 at the Art Association, 6031 S. Lake Street in Glen Arbor.
Peggy Godwin, of Delray Beach, Fla., and Traverse City studied at Michigan State University with an emphasis on art history. Three years ago she took her first oil painting class through the Glen Arbor Art Association and since then has taken many workshops in Michigan and Florida, studying the work of a variety of painters. Her current goal is to capture the concept of atmosphere in her paintings. Her work is currently exhibited at the Treeline Gallery in Suttons Bay, and she is a regular participant in GAAA’s Paint Outs.
Wendy McWhorter, of Traverse City, says that “being right under the sky is what I love best about painting outdoors.” One of her watercolors of Good Harbor Bay looking toward the Whaleback was selected for inclusion in The Art of the Sleeping Bear Dunes, published last year. She has participated and sold work in 2012 and 2013 at Glen Arbor Art Association’s Paint Out. Her work is on display at Meadowsweet Gallery, Traverse City, and she will have a show at the Traverse Area District Library in July.
Exhibition hours are: Friday, Aug. 22/opening reception from 6-9 p.m. with additional gallery hours Saturday, Aug. 23, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. For more information call 231-334-6112.
