Glen Arbor Art Association announces 2013 Artists in Residence
The Glen Arbor Art Association (GAAA) will host nine artists in 2013 — five visual artists, two writers and two photographers — from May to October, in a series of two-week residencies. The GAAA Artist-in-Residence program provides artists with uninterrupted time to focus on their practice. Janice Dumas, a watercolor artist from Milford, Michigan, is the first resident of the 2013 program.
Dumas received her BFA from Wayne State University. Her focus is plein air painting, and she plans to spend her residency working throughout the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Her residency will allow Dumas to build a body of work that reflects and recognizes Michigan’s “inherent beauty,” she said. The Milford painter has exhibited widely and been the recipient of numerous awards and honors. She has participated in the GAAA Plein Air Paint Out for the last two years. She says, “I believe artistic talent is a gift that we build upon with a lot of hard work, study and practice.”
As part of the Artist-in-Residence program, each artist gives a public presentation at the end of the stay. Dumas will share experiences and work from her residency on Thursday, May 16, 7:30 p.m. at the GAAA on Studio Lane at 6031 S. Lake St., across from Cherry Republic. The program is free. Refreshments will be served.
