Genuine Leelanau cocktail party benefits The Laundry Project

From staff reports

Genuine Leelanau, a nonprofit charitable organization serving children and families of Leelanau County for over 30 years, hosts their annual “Laundry Party” gala on Wednesday, June 18, at the Empire home of Bill and Cherrie Stege. The recipient of this annual fundraiser, The Laundry Project, provides funds and laundry supplies for families in need. As a result of this fundraising party, financially stressed local families may use the facilities at the Suttons Bay Laundromat at Hansen’s Plaza for free.

Tickets to the Laundry Party are available for $50 through all Genuine Leelanau board members. Besides a peek at this fabulous home, Laundry Party guests will enjoy sumptuous food and grog, so plan to be sated and ready to have a great evening. Party runs from 6-8 p.m. The Stege home is located at 7124 S. Dune Hwy. in Empire, right next to the Sleeping Bear Dune Climb. Tickets are also available at the door. Please bring a large package of diapers for the local Baby Pantry.

The Mission of the Genuine Leelanau Charitable Fund, which operates under the Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation (GTRCF), is to provide grants for integrated arts and other projects that benefit Leelanau County children and families in need. The GTRCF exists to benefit community enrichment, cultural arts, environment, youth and education in our region. It is the largest grant maker in Northern Michigan, awarding an average of $2.1 million in grants. Each year they honor a nonprofit organization. This year the Leland/Northport Children’s Center was gifted $1,000.
