Fresh snow blankets Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail, Palmer Woods; Friends to groom this week

News

From staff reports

The Friends of Sleeping Bear Dunes report that we received a good snowfall yesterday providing about 6-8 inches of fresh powder over warm ground.

“Hopefully, this will provide us with a good base. The snow is warm, so wax your skis to prevent ice formation on the bottom of your skis.”

The Friends report that they don’t yet have the tracks on the groomer, so the trails won’t be groomed until the end of this week if conditions allow. Those seeking to ski on the asphalt parts of the Heritage Trail should know that their ski poles will probably hit the asphalt and might skid.

Ski Conditions

  • Empire to Dune Climb – 6-8″ of fresh powder
  • Dune Climb to Glen Haven – 6-8″ of fresh powder
  • Glen Haven to Glen Arbor – 6-8″ of fresh powder
  • Crystal View Trailhead to Port Oneida Road – 6-8″ of fresh powder
  • Port Oneida Road to Bohemian Road – 6-8″ of fresh powder
  • Palmer Woods – 6-8″ of fresh powder – good backcountry skiing
