Test drive Chevy Volt, Support Heritage Trail

,

From staff reports

Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail supporters, car enthusiasts and renewable energy advocates will have an opportunity to test drive a GM Chevy Volt on Tuesday, July 31, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at Cherry Republic in Glen Arbor. General Motors, a strong supporter of the Heritage Trail, will make the trip to Glen Arbor with three Chevy Volts to test drive.

Drivers are encouraged to purchase a raffle ticket to win a Volt. Proceeds support the Heritage Trail, the multi-use bike trail that will one day stretch 27 miles, from the Leelanau-Benzie County Line to Good Harbor Bay.

The Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail fundraising committee is trying to raise $200,000 by September to pay the Michigan Department of Transportation to extend the trail to Empire by next summer. Half of the total 1,200 tickets have been sold for the Chevy Volt — the most advanced and the most Michigan-made car in the world. Raffle tickets cost $100 apiece or three for $250. Every dollar goes directly to the trail.
