Empire celebrates Anchor Day

Come celebrate the anniversary of the raising of Empire’s now-famous anchor from the depths of Lake Michigan in July 1977. The celebration on Saturday, July 21, begins with an Anchor Day Fun Run at 9 a.m. (registration 8:45) at the Empire Beach Park Pavilion.

The Anchor Day Parade lines up at 1:30 p.m. at Johnson Park on Reynolds Street and leaves toward Front Street at 2. Parade entries sought: bring your float, bicycle, walking shoes or whatever you like to look silly. Contact the Community Center for more information: eacc@empireareacommunitycenter.org. The run and parade are sponsored by the Empire Area Community Center.

The Lions Club BBQ Chicken Dinner at the Empire Town Hall runs from 1-7 p.m. Adults are $13, Children under 10 are $6. Street Dancing follows from 7-11 p.m. on the Empire Town Hall Front Porch with live music featuring Sweet Charlie. BYOB, chairs and dancing shoes.
