Dunegrass changes name to “Sleepy Bear Music Festival”

From staff reports

The Dunegrass Festival will change its name to “Sleepy Bear Music Festival”, organizer Ryan Lake told the Glen Arbor Sun. The popular northern Michigan summer music festival will roll out the carpet again July 27-29, 2012, on the Harm family’s property near Lake Ann. Dunegrass moved there this past summer from Leelanau County following 18 years in or near Empire. The name change was due, in part, to a dispute with the Vanderberg family in Empire that started the festival in 1993. To learn more about next year’s festival, visit www.sleepybearmusic.com.

According to a press release from Win Win Productions:

“After finding its new home in 2011 on a beautiful 350 acre farm in Lake Ann, MI., the site is now fully equipped with electric and a permanent stage set in a natural amphitheater. Along with the new location, and new management in 2009, the production team is shedding the old name and will continue its original vision under the new banner, ‘Sleepy Bear Music Festival’. The festival features a second stage and also an acoustic stage called the ‘Pickin Tree’, which sets in its own amphiteater.

Featuring top national musical acts, while still maintaining it’s original focus on Michigan music, this family-friendly camp offers a wide variety of great music, activities and events. Not only does the festival have an array of arts & crafts vendors and fresh food vendors, you will also find music workshops, an upgraded kids arena and a disk-golf course.”

Editor’s note:
The Sleepy Bear Music Festival dates have been changed to July 27-29 in order to avoid conflict with Farm Fest dates. The festival had originally been scheduled for Aug. 10-12.
