Crystal River culvert replacement project resumes

Upcoming Event

From staff reports

GTEC USA will resume its Crystal River culvert replacement work on June 15 at the crossing near the corner of M-22 and County Road 675, close to The Mill.

This project will include removal of the existing culverts and replacement with a 65-foot steel bridge by the end of August. CR 675 will be closed to thru traffic from M-22 to S Westman Road, and rerouted for the duration of the project.

Two previous Crystal River culvert projects were completed last year.

On June 23 a Cofferdam and stream diversion will be put in place to allow for the existing culvert removal and new H-piles, concrete abutments, and bridge installation. These efforts will require temporary sheet piles to be installed at the onset of the project, with their removal before final grade establishment.

On July 21, large rip-rap will be installed for stream bank stabilization with roadbed construction soon after, bordered by new guardrail.

The project area will be closed to all boating traffic during the duration of the construction period. Paddlers will be allowed to portage across CR 675 at Crossing #2, however there will be no offloading at that location within the construction site. Offloading is encouraged at Fisher Road launch or Crossing #3 downstream. If paddlers choose not to end their boating trip at the Crystal River Outfitters boat launch and/or the boat launch near the Egeler Road/M-22 intersection, then they will be required to turn around at Crossing #1 and paddle back upstream to one of those boat launches to access the shoreline.

Paving over the new bridge and slope restoration will be completed by the end of August. W Crystal View Road will then continue to be closed during the construction of Crossing #2, which will be finished by Dec. 1. It will be planned to reopen the West Crystal View Road to thru traffic by December 1.
