“Peachy” Rentenbach runs for County Commission

Local Personality

From staff reports

Carolyn “Peachy” Rentenbach, former owner of La Becasse Restaurant, has announced that she is a candidate for the Leelanau County Commission in November. Rentenbach is running for the seat being vacated by David Marshall. District 6 is comprised of Empire, Glen Arbor and Cleveland Townships.

“I’ve been involved with the community and have management skills that I can apply to decisions as a commissioner,” Rentenbach said. “We need to help create jobs and assist growth while protecting the natural environment that is such a remarkable resource for Leelanau’s economy and our quality of life.”

Rentenbach said she wants to hear from local residents about their priorities for how county tax dollars are spent and will launch a door-to-door tour this summer to meet voters and listen to their concerns so she can represent residents’ views when decisions are made on the commission.

She serves on the board of the Northwest Michigan Community Action Agency as a representative of the county. Earlier, she worked for the county helping needy residents with nutrition, home care and other social services.

Prior to moving to Leelanau County, Rentenbach served as Executive Vice President of the Michigan Restaurant Association providing services to many businesses across the state.

“I’m a part-time ski instructor and golf shop employee of The Homestead Resort, and I used to teach skiing at Sugar Loaf,” she said. “As a business owner, I learned about how the tourism industry affects our local economy.”

Rentenbach is known to most as “Peachy,” her lifelong nickname. She is running as Carolyn Rentenbach, her legal name, and hopes that peoples make that connection when going to the polls. She is currently a Glen Arbor Township resident. Of her 25 years in residence, most of which were spent operating La Becasse with her husband of 41 years, John Rentenbach, she feels that it is time to give back to the community with a common sense approach and fair and responsible leadership.
