Coffee mugs are beautiful

News

CoffeeMugFrom staff reports

Gallery owners in Glen Arbor’s Lake Street Arts District have declared Saturday, Aug. 3, to be Beautiful Coffee Mug Awareness Day.

While many coffee drinkers devote energy toward finding the best tasting, Fair Trade coffee, fewer put the same energy into thinking about what they drink it from. On Aug. 3, come to the Lake Street Arts District and try drinking coffee from a beautiful coffee mug. In North gallery there are blue and white porcelain mugs made by gallery owners Nori Obata and Steb Prieto. Center Gallery has wood- and soda-fired mugs by Cedar artist Matt McGovern. Forest Gallery offers mugs made by North American artists Royce Yoder, Cindy Searles, Steven Fabrico and Detroit-based Pewabic Pottery.

And at the Glen Lake Artists Gallery potter and gallery owner John Huston will make ceramic mugs while visitors watch. Glen Lake Artists Gallery is located on Studio Lane, across from the Glen Arbor Art Association.

Beautiful Coffee Mug Awareness Day is 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Fresh roasted coffee from the Leelanau Coffee Roasters will be served. The Lake Street Arts District is comprised of galleries located in the south block of Lake and State streets. Call Lake Street Studios for more information, (231) 334-3179.
